Dragan et Madlaina se rencontrent à Zurich par hasard (il repeint sa chambre) et tombent amoureux. Madlaina vient d'avoir 16 ans et cherche une place d'apprentissage. Elle est noire, adoptée par des parents suisses. Dragan, 21 ans, est Serbe, déserteur. Il attend la décision de la Commission de recours concernant sa demande d'asileÉ Pas simple de s'aimer lorsqu'on n'est pas comme tout le monde. Cela d'autant plus si on a l'âge des possibles et que l'horizon s'estompe dans un flou confiné aux barrières de la réalité. Plans rapprochés, montage serré, fluidité de la narration et comédiens particulièrement bien choisis, Kaspar Kasics témoigne avec franchise et ravissement d'un nouveau visage de la Suisse, celui d'une société pluri-culturelle et multi-raciale. Patchwork coloré qui passe encore dans une grande ville comme Zurich, mais qui se heurte pourtant à des problèmes certains dans l'arrière-pays. Film généreux qui mise sur la jeunesse, son enthousiasme (même contrecarré par les circonstances), son ouverture d'esprit, pour brandir la bannière de la tolérance.

Dragan and Madlaina meet by chance in Zurich (he is repainting her room) and fall in love. Madlaina is 16 years old and she's looking for an apprenticeship. She's an African girl having been adopted by Swiss parents. Dragan is 21, Serbian, deserter. He's waiting for the Commission of Appeal to make a decision about his asylum request. It's not easy to love each other when one's not as everybody else. Especially when one's young, when everything is possible and when the horizon fades into a fuzziness confined to the barrier of reality. Through close-ups, short cuts, a fluent narration and a very good cast, Kaspar Kasics shows with sincerity and rapture a new face of Switzerland: the one of a multicultural and multiracial society. The vivid patchwork might be accepted in a big city such as Zurich, but comes up against some problems in the hinterland. It's a generous film that places all hopes on youth - its enthusiasm (even if it's foiled by the circumstances), its open-mindedness Ð in order to raise the banner of tolerance.

Né à Interlaken en 1952, Kaspar Kasics à étudié la musique aux Conservatoires de Bâle et de Zurich, avant de fréquenter l'Université de Zurich (philosophie et littérature allemande). Il a ensuite réalisé divers courts métrages, puis a travaillé cinq ans comme journaliste et réalisateur de documentaires à la télévision suisse alémanique. Depuis 1990, Kaspar Kasics a sa propre maison de productions.

Born in Interlaken in 1952, Kaspar Kasics studied music at the conservatoires of music of both Basel and Zurich before attending the courses in Philosophy and German literature at the Zurich University. After that, he directed independently some short films and worked as a journalist and film director for the Swiss German television. Kaspar Kasics runs his own production company since 1990.
