The Dead Mountaineer Hotel's
The police station gets a call-out to a lonely hotel in the Alps. When an officer gets to the hotel, everything seems to be all right. Suddenly an avalanche cuts them out from the rest of the world and strange things start to happen. The surreal characters and the lynchean ambiance aren't the film's only oddities: shot during the Soviet era, it depicts a very western way of life (even though it was filmed entirely in Kazakhstan!). It is the Soviet Union's leniency towards science fiction that allowed this now cult film to escape censorship.
